Kiev played host to Christmas Starts, the traditional annual athletic competition. The best representatives of the Queen of Sports showed that they are ready for a new season.

The competition has opened this year's athletic calendar in Ukraine.

The organizer and sponsor of the athletic event was the Main Department for Physical Culture and Sports of KCSA and the Kiev Athletics Federation with a support of the Sport Life fitness club chain.

The competition was attended by representatives from 12 regions of Ukraine, the strongest athletes from Kiev, and the members of the Ukrainian national team. There were 30 sets of medals in 15 field events: races for 60, 200, 400, 800, 1500, and 3000 meters, a hardle race for 600 meters, walking races for 5 and 10 kilometers, jumping in length, a pole vault, a high jump, a shot put. The competition was held under the rules of the International Athletic Federation.
